Now Open! The Grierson Trust announces the 2017 British Documentary Award categories

The Grierson Trust has decided today to extend the running time of qualifying films for the new Yaddo Best Documentary Short category from 20 to 25 minutes.

Managing Director, Jane Callaghan, explains: "We've had a number of enquiries about films that are under 25 minutes and it seems clear to me now that that is the length we should have gone for. It's important that we are as inclusive as possible, so we're letting everyone know about the change whilst there still time for filmmakers to make their entries."

The closing date is 31 May 2017. Documentaries eligible for the awards must have been screened during the qualifying period 1 May 2016 – 31 May 2017. This includes scheduled screenings within recognised film, television and documentary festivals. Entries are accepted for both analogue and digital platforms – such as Netflix, iPlayer, Amazon – as long as the screening was accessible by a UK-based audience.
