The Grierson Trust on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Given recent developments regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), we at The Grierson Trust wanted to reassure our beneficiaries and industry friends that we are doing everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our staff, trainees and partners in these unprecedented and trying times.

We also wanted to provide an update on what this means for our Grierson DocLab training scheme and the Grierson Awards, plus summarise some resources and places to go for advice for the wider industry; especially the self-employed workers who will be affected by the economic implications of the pandemic.

Applications for the 2020 iteration of our Grierson DocLab scheme for new entrants to factual TV and film will remain open until the deadline this Friday 20 March at 5pm.

We will then be in touch with all who have applied early next week, outlining the next steps for the scheme in terms of the selection day and other key dates, as the original schedule will no longer apply given restrictions on travel and large meetings from Government.

We would like to assure everyone who has applied that we will consider their applications carefully, as always, and will do everything in our power to put an alternative plan in place for the scheme as swiftly as possible. We will be working closely with our sponsors and supporters to do so and would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience during this difficult time.

As in previous years, we will be opening for entries for the Grierson Awards on 1 April. We plan to run the awards ceremony in November as usual, but we may have to hold some, or all, of the jury panels remotely as per Government advice. We will continue to assess the situation and take advice from Government closer to the time about whether the ceremony should take place. More news about the awards will follow shortly.

Finally, we would like to reiterate that we will continue to monitor developments carefully and adjust our plans for all of The Trust’s activity accordingly. We will look to the World Health Organisation, NHS and GOV UK/Public Health England to ensure that the health of our staff, partners, DocLab trainees and industry friends remains top priority. It is of the utmost importance to us to take every precaution and measure possible to ensure their safety.
