Read how 2020 Grierson DocLab trainee, Chandler got on working across various doc genres
I spent two weeks at Wall to Wall and it was one of the most incredible experiences in my career so far. I was able to work on three different shows of varying genres, learning about development, casting and research. From searching for articles in the 80’s, to transcribing interviews and contacting contributors, I developed a lot of skills. I was even given the chance to work as a runner alongside a crew filming for Long Lost Family. They welcomed me and taught me so much in such a short space of time. I’m so grateful for the time I spent with them.
I was nervous at the start, wondering how I was going to be able to make connections just via Zoom but the team at Wall to Wall helped me settle in with ease. I have a strong interest in research and development, so to be shown in depth and first-hand what skills are needed was priceless. I appreciated that throughout my time I was treated as a colleague and not just someone on a work placement.
Overall, I was sad for it to end but I have been offered the chance to come back and work with Wall to Wall in the future which is incredibly exciting and want to thank everyone for the opportunity.
