Production Management trainee Emmie on her placement and mentorship
The Grierson DocLab In Focus: Production Management scheme in partnership with Netflix is an incredible springboard for anyone looking to pursue a documentary film career in Production Management.
The initial training week was extremely well put together with insightful lectures, workshops and countless opportunities to meet inspiring leaders in the industry. As someone with little to no experience in TV/Film, I was unsure how to tackle such a dramatic career change. The Grierson scheme gave me the confidence to make that leap and supported me through this transition. I became equipped with relevant skills to kick-start my career while learning to enhance the transferable skills I already brought to the table.
When I was appointed my three-month work placement, I felt encouraged and supported in order to fully apply myself. I was incredibly well matched with the company Rogan Productions who have given me the space to develop and grow. My mentor, Clare Voyce from Minnow Films has been such an important part of my Grierson experience as she has kept me focused on my career development and supported my journey. Clare's support has been vital in answering questions that cropped up after the initial training and throughout learning my new role. She has been a compass for me, keeping me on track and challenging me on where my career can go. I have now been working with Rogan for six months and am about to be promoted from Production Secretary to Production Co-ordinator on a year contract.
I cannot thank the Grierson scheme enough for providing this career-changing opportunity. Not only do they provide high quality training, but the support is what makes this scheme stand out from others.
