We are happy to announce the seven editing trainees selected for the programme, run in partnership with Netflix.
The seven trainees selected for the Unscripted Editing training programme, run in partnership with Netflix.
Shifting focus to unscripted for the third year of the Grierson DocLab In Focus editing programme, we are thrilled to now introduce the trainees.
The group brings a diverse range of life and work experience to the programme, with some having worked in documentary and current affairs, and others in scripted, short-form, experimental film and more.
Yen Yau, Director of Training Programmes at the Grierson Trust, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming a fresh group of trainees to the ever-growing Grierson DocLab network, especially given this move into the world of big unscripted formatted shows.
“We have an amazing array of speakers and case studies from across the unscripted genre lined up for the training week. We're excited to be working with new industry partners – as well as continuing our valued collaboration with Netflix – to deliver this training.”
About Grierson DocLab In Focus: Unscripted Editing
Aimed at editors with professional experience using Avid Media Composer, the programme will equip each trainee with the knowledge, skillset, and connections to step up to working on large-scale unscripted productions.
The programme will provide each trainee with intensive training, mentoring from an industry professional, and the potential to be matched with a Netflix unscripted production on a paid placement.
Commencing on 29 January, the training week will be delivered at the Netflix London offices by Editor Claire Ferguson, and will include workshops on understanding large-scale shows, the art of finding a characters’ narrative in the edit, ethical considerations, and mapping who’s who of the unscripted production and post-production workflow. There will also be masterclasses, case studies delivered by leading unscripted industry professionals, and an editing exercise to consolidate learning to be completed by the group.
