The Grierson Trust seeking new Trustees

The Grierson Trust is seeking to appoint two new Trustees with wide-ranging experience of the factual TV and documentary filmmaking industries to its Board.

Following a Board skills audit, and with an understanding of current gaps within our Board, we are especially interested in finding new Trustees who are employees of the BBC and Channel 4, as these broadcasters are not currently represented on The Grierson Trust Board. We are particularly interested in applicants from under-represented groups and those based in the Nations and Regions.

In addition, it would be desirable if candidates either:

(i) hold knowledge about at least one of the following areas:

  • Charity law
  • Compliance
  • Policy development
  • HR management
  • Corporate sponsorship or fundraising

or

(ii) have experience working in at least one of the following roles or specialisms:

  • Distribution
  • Short documentary
  • Cinematography
  • Theatrical documentary
  • Commissioning
  • Directing
  • Specialist factual

The Grierson Trust commemorates the pioneering Scottish documentary filmmaker, John Grierson and celebrates the best in factual TV and documentaries from the UK and around the world with the British Documentary Awards – more fondly known as the Griersons – as well as encouraging new talent through its Grierson DocLab and Grierson DocLab In Focus: Editing and Production Management training and mentoring schemes.

The Grierson Trust is a registered charity operated as a company limited by guarantee, and the board of directors of the company are also trustees of the charity.

Trustees serve for a maximum of six years (two three-year terms). Six Board meetings are held per year, which Trustees are expected to attend. The Board is responsible for setting the strategy and policies of The Grierson Trust and guides and supports the Managing Director and staff.

Trustees are also expected to chair and review a category for the annual Grierson Awards, to help secure Grierson Awards presenting talent, to help with the interviewing of candidates for the Grierson DocLab training schemes, to mentor Grierson DocLab trainees and to support fundraising.
